Belgian cross-borders: what documents should you have in the event of a roadside check?
Belgian cross-borders using a Luxembourg-registered vehicle should be particularly vigilant in the event of a roadside check. Belgium continues to carry out regular checks on foreign-registered vehicles.
Documents required
In the event of a check, Belgian cross-borders must be able to submit the following documents:
- A certificate from the employer confirming the availability of the vehicle. This document must state the employee's name, his Luxembourg social security number, the type of vehicle, the chassis number and the date on which it was made available. This certificate will also specify that the vehicle may also be used on Belgian territory, for professional and incidental private purposes, by the employee or persons living under his or her roof.
- A copy of the employment contract or addendum that the employee is provided with a company car and that the vehicle may be used for both business and personal purposes, particularly for journeys between home and work, and that family members living under the same roof are authorized to drive it.
- A household composition if the vehicle is also used by another person living in the same household.
Advice
To avoid any problems, Belgian cross-borders are advised to keep the required documents in their vehicle at all times.
